Indian Languages Translation

I was wondering if it is possible to have Zimbra available in Indian languages. I know little or nothing about translations in Zimbra.

Let's say, I want to translate the UI to "Gujarati" and "Hindi", and allow the user to write email in that language.

Is this possible? How? :)

Can the user "Select the language" when logging in?

I looked at http://www.zimbra.com/forums/i18n-l10n-translations/4098-language-files-svn.html and am assuming that in order to provide a language other than English, let's say "Gujarati", I need to take the English Properties File

and rename to something like: ZmMsg_gj.properties

and provide UTF equivalent to the text messages inside the properties file.

Am I right in thinking so?

Once you get the language pack installed, all you need to do is change the language settings of your browser and the respective language files will be autmagically loaded by the client.

So, if you're using FF, go to Preferences > Advanced > General > Edit Languages > Select a language to add...

Choose the language you just installed, cross your fingers and reload the browser :)

Almost. You need to add the appropriate suffix for the language. I did a web search and found that these would be the following for the languages in question:

Gujarati: _gu_IN
Hindi: _hi_IN

Translating Zimbra into these languages requires that you copy the base language file (e.g. ZmMsg.properties) and rename it with the proper language code (e.g. ZmMsg_gu_IN.properties). Then you can freely translate the values contained within that file.

There is one interesting thing, though. In the application, we generate some messages (i.e. I18nMsg.properties) from the various locales that Java knows about. I notice that there is no _gu_IN file generated so this also needs to be translated. I would suggest using the I18nMsg_hi_IN.properties file as the starting point for _gu_IN.
