Default [SOLVED] Telsys is withholding Norwegian translation. Please help!

The official Norwegian Zimbra partner, Telsys is not willing to release their finished Norwegian translation. The reason for this is, that they are afraid of competition, and the official excuse is: That they are afraid of competitors that are not as professional as them, damaging the market. This has forced me and a handful of others people to reinvent the wheel
Is this a good practice for a Zimbra official partner? Please let them know how you feel about them not contributing to the community! You can email them at xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Anyway, we have translated about 50% language text files. these files resides on a web server. We make suggestions, and the moderator apply the changes.

Is it possible to make an automatic wget using cron, that downloads these files when they are changed? I would also like to make symbolic links of these files and place them in the right directories. Is this possible? If yes how?

I'm <removed real name>, CEO at Telsys AS. We have never told anybody that we are afraid of competition, and we have also given language files earlier. After Flums (<removed real name>) released these publicy we have told people that have contacted us to download this instead, since our translation had Telsys hardcoded in the language sting several places.

Hi

This is strange, as it is me who worked in Telsys who did the translation on my spare time. The norwegian translation is located at Index of /zimbra. I will try to get this shipped with Zimbra when i get SVN access.

I do not work for them anymore, but for Redpill Linpro AS, a open soruce firm working a lot with Zimbra.

Hi,

Just email salg[at]telsys.no about Norwegian Translation. We have earlier given the translations to most that have requested the files, but we have also stated that we never had a fully complete Norwegian Translation. Also our translation have hardcoded Telsys serveral places in the language string.

We have never said that we are afraid of competition, we would love to se more companies offering Zimbra and get the product more known in the norwegian market. We have stated that there is allready a translation available, and it is easy found if you search "norwegian translation" or check the similar threads on this page.

Since our translation mainly was done by Flums, he has finished the translation, and released the translation public.

Best regards,

Eirik Leirgulen
CEO
Telsys AS

Eirik / nordviks, I'm sorry to hear there's been a problem with this translation file and I'm sure it can all be worked out.

I'm not sure how a translation from one language to another can add company names to the translated version where there was not one before, Eirik, can you expand on that?

As this is the translation forum, it's a valid place to dicuss this issue, but lets make sure we all keep a level head.

Nordviks, have you tried to contact Telsys via other channels before this post?

Guess I explained badly earlier. Our internal translation had "Telsys" mentioned many places. Like the string "Documents" was earlier translated to example "Telsys Wiki".

Since there allready was a available norwegian translation we have told to use this instead of our internal translation. We also told that this probably will be availble within Zimbra when Flums get his SVN access.

We have also started to use the translation that is maintained by Flums, so our internal use translation files are not updated or finished.

Keep ut the good work Flums!

Flums, your now a member of http://sourceforge.net/projects/zimbra-xtras (We don't dump current there anymore - have to grab latest .properties files from perforce.)

Your welcome to svn commit or 'file release' a tar. Or still self host (though thread is obviously requesting a public archive.)

Some use it:
Finnish_fi/ 541 5 days ago meikka 5.0.16 version
Greek_el/ 540 13 days ago gmelis nomsg

While others like cvidal are members but don't use that route anymore - he just attaches files/links to forum threads for the French patch/dictionary/zimlet.

As far as shipping a language: We need it in the YALA translation system or someone has to manually compare/add lines each time.

Personally I think the 'stick a (beta) around it' and occasionally have you file a bug for us to upload into perforce sounds fine (just gotta convince the powers that be.) However, the issue with that is missing a new string can break features [SOLVED] Share'ing of tasks, calandar and briefcase seems broken in 5.0.7

While I don't completely know how that software works, would be interested to know the effort required to add a new language to YALA, though not QA it, and just have any new strings pull from a dictionary till someone creates a bug and attaches edits.

For now, best to open an RFE to track interest in a language's official support (if made official the translation team can take a recent copy of it so were not going backwards in progress).

Hi

Just sharing info about this thread. Since there have been some progress. Translation is now moved to Github: https://github.com/Flums/Norwegian-Zimbra-Translation

The reason for moving it away from SF was no commitment from Zimbra to help people getting moderator/write access. I've also filed a bug (RFE) for norwegian language support: https://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=67600

There is also a irc-channel called #zimbra-no@Freenode where you can talk with me. I am also availeble on Skype if anyone want to get in touch with me. Skype name is philipgabrielsen

Please vote for bug, and PLEASE, contrib to translation on Github. All commits will be dragged into master, and i monitor this stuff on a dayly basis.

Cheers!
