Faield To Connect

Hi,

I've downloaded and installed the desktop application. I am using a pb G4 running OSX 10.4.8, I am also using firefox v2.0.0.3. My problem is: Once I open the app, it brings me to a failed to connect to browser page with this url:

http://localhost:7633/zimbra/mail

I am assuming that is because zimbra is not configured with zimbra desktop. My question is, how do I configure the app if I can't open it? If anyone has configured this on a mac, please let me know what you had to do, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Thanks for gettting back to me, I looked in the install folder and in the log folder. I did not have a file called mailbox.log. Is there something else I should do? Awaiting your response.

My first thought is.... you're using Mac.... if you were using a Windows based system this wouldn't be a problem. On another note, the windows version comes with the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) package, and the Mac version does not. You need to get JRE installed for your OS. I'm not sure where you'll download that for OS X, but if you google it you should be fine. Once that's installed try to run the Zimbra Desktop again and let us know what you come up with.

Mac bashing on a cross platform developed system. I could say a few choice words about your operating system decision, however, I am not here for that war. I'm here to get this piece of software to work. I do appreciate the advice you have given me. I will give her a go. I will let you know how it goes.

Hehe, I had to take the opportunity and throw a mac bash in there, it's all fun. Anywho, I really think installing the JRE on OS X will work though. Just before I did my ZCS Desktop install I read something about that. Good luck.

Here's a piece copied from the Wiki regarding Zimbra Desktop.

SOFTWARE DEPENDENCIES

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5.x must be installed on Mac OS X prior to installing Zimbra Desktop.

Windows and Linux installers are bundled with JRE.

If I were you I'd head over to the Wiki for uninstall instructions, then load up JRE, then install Zimbra Desktop again just to be safe.

Mac OS X comes with a Sun JVM by default, either 1.4 or 1.5, depending on your OS X version and Mac hardware platform, i.e. PPC or Intel. Unless someone does some major open-lib surgery, the Sun JVM is there to stay. The only thing you could try is to see (and possibly switch) the standard JVM version with the Java Preferences tool at /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/Java Preferences. Most Mac users on a recent version of 10.4 will have done the J2SE 5.0 update by now but may have changed their default JVM for some reason.

And to follow up on the actual error, I have the exact same problem with a dual 2.0 G5, Mac OS X 10.4.8, JRE 5. The Zimbra Desktop icon pops up a link to http://localhost:7633/zimbra/mail which for me too renders:

HTTP ERROR: 404

NOT_FOUND
RequestURI=/zimbra/mail

Incidentally, and as an aside, the Windows version most likely comes with a JVM because MS never bothered to include a proper one with their OS, which makes one of the first orders of business with any new Wintel machine a download and install of Sun's JVM. But again, that's entirely OT. ;)

I'm probably wrong, but just an idea. Is it possible that the port is incorrect? By default it's forcing you to use 7633 right? But based on the way you configured Zimbra on your server, I'd say it's possible you may need to point it at an https, and therefore a different port as well.

Actually that sounds completely wrong. I changed the path of my Zimbra desktop launcher by deleting the "a" at the end of zimbra and came up with the same error you have when I launched.

Based on that, maybe you guys should play around with the path that the launcher has specified. Maybe make it just http://localhost:7633/zimbra or just http://localhost:7633/ and see what happens. Ah the joy of troubleshooting. :rolleyes:
