Default Mozilla pulling development plug on Thunderbird

Now with the number of significant e-mail clients starting to decline will Zimbra continue to develop Zimbra Desktop for ZCS 8.0 and beyond? What else works with Zimbra other than Evolution and Outlook (yuck).

I noticed this in the Release Notes for ZCS 8:

Zimbra Desktop will EOL in a future release of Zimbra but ZD 7.2 will be supported with Zimbra 8. The technology choices to provide offline access to Zimbra have expanded since the release of Zimbra Desktop 1.0.
    (Page 16)

Not sure if they plan on keeping it going throughout the 8 series or kill it midway through. I understand that it could be more work for little pay off, but I hope they keep ZD around. Some of my users like the warm fuzzy of a client app and warm fuzzies go a long way here.

Despite Mozilla stopping development on the Thunderbird core they at least appear to be keeping security development going. With a large base of plugins to do a multitude of things I can understand not spending a lot of time on hacking away on the core to keep it shiny. Even is Mozilla was completely divorcing themselves of Thunderbird (which they aren't) good clients stay around for a very long time. I know of a former co-worker who just had Eudora ripped from his not-yet-cold-and-not-dead-fingers because of incompatibility with Gmail.
