i would like to know if its possible to backup and restore emails on a zimbra open source client.

What do you mean by a "...zimbra open source client"? What exactly are you trying to do?

hi

i saved the file C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Zimbra\Zimbra Desktop and now if i paste the same file on a new installation the application is failing to read the file.

If you mean Zimbra Desktop then you've posted in the wrong forums, this is for Zimbra Collaboration Suite - I'll move it to the correct forum.

Don't keep posting multiple messages when you don't see you post in the forum, there's an anti-spam feature that requires your post (as you're a new user) to be moderated before it's visible.

That version of Zimbra Desktop is no longer supported and hasn't been for a while, I'd suggest you go to the download page and get the current ZD 7.1.4 beta and install that. That version has a backup/restore function and before you install I'd suggest you read the FAQ in the wiki covering the 7.1.x install of ZD - read it in detail before you do the install and take a copy of your old data before the install.
