Default Zimbra Desktop 7.1.2 on Debian 6 AMD64 install notes

make sure you have jre & ia32-libs-gtk installed, if not install them as root
    Code:
    aptitude install default-jre ia32-libs-gtk
    run install.pl from extractd directory (e.g.: /home/malayo/zdesktop_7_1_2_ga_b10978_linux_i686/)

run below command as your current user:
    Code:
    su -c 'perl /home/malayo/zdesktop_7_1_2_ga_b10978_linux_i686/install.pl'
just press enter/return for all the questions

run below command as your current user:
    Code:
    /opt/zimbra/zdesktop/linux/user-install.pl

This issue is a couple of years old, and the fixes don't apply. I just downloaded Zimbra Desktop (for Debian 64-bit), followed the instructions, and received the "failed to start child process" error. The old SSL and ia32 libs aren't available any longer.

I have to tell you that between this and the Zoho failure, I'm not too impressed with the second rate treatment that GNU/Linux has been getting. I have been a Debian user for over 10 years, and I push for it whenever I can, but the results of this install attempt do NOT give the OS any credibility in the business world. It's an uphill battle as it is, people. Please get with the program.
