Question Desktop Filters not pushed to Server?

For the past couple weeks, I've been trying to figure out why mail is slipping past the filters I've set up.

When I added the account (a Zimbra Server 6 account hosted by another firm) to my Zimbra 7 Desktop, it synced the filter list from the server to Desktop for that account. When I made changes via Desktop, for that account, they seemed to do nothing.

I only just realized, after logging in to the Server via the Web UI directly, that none of my new filters or filter changes were applied to the Server.

This seems like a rather blatant bug. If I change Filters within an account on Desktop, it only makes sense that I expect the filters on the Server to be updated, especially as the Filters preference is a child of the account's preference tree and the filters were initially synced from the server in the first place.

This is with Zimbra Desktop 7.0.1, Mac OS X. I'm not sure of the specific version of the server beyond Zimbra 6, as it's not my server and I can't seem to find the search query that will make the Web UI spit it out.

Thanks,

Gregory

You need, IIRC, a more recent version of the Zimbra server. I would suggest you install the current ZD 7.1.1 version and confirm if they are working or not. They currently sync for me from ZD to a ZCS 7.1.2 server (I don't currently have a ZCS 6 to test this with).

I guess for the moment you'll have to create filters in the Web UI and wait until your provider upgrades to ZCS 7.

Default Filters...

I just spent an entire day, setting up Filters on my
hosted Zimbra acct @ 01.com.

Fired up Zimbra Desktop client ver 7.1.1 build 10917

It wiped out ALL my filters from my hosted account

Can we not use Zimbra Desktop client if we have a Zimbra server account with Filters implemented

There should be no reason why it wouldn't work, used against several Zimbra servers it works fine for me.

Unhappy

Fouund this:

Bug 41493 – Un-sync'ed filters in webclient gets deleted if you add filter from zDesktop.

So, there is a confirmed problem.

Back in January 2011 this was said:
"this is how attribute sync works right now. will revisit in the future."

So - Guess it is not going to be fixed

I don't know where you got that idea from, there's nothing in that bug report to imply it won't be changed/fixed. I've also no idea which version of ZCS is in use on the server that you're connecting to but as I mentioned above, this works against my ZCS servers (ZCS 7.x).

01.com is also on ver 7.x

However, guess that I'll really never be able to tell which ver7 they are running.

What I do know is that something is definitely deleting my filters on their server, when I start up Zimbra Desktop.

The quote I included from the bugzilla thread, really troubles me -
when they say "will revisit in the future".

If they are going to have this kind of attitude towards a released product (last time I checked, Zimbra Desktop is no longer beta) then I give up on Zimbra Desktop.

I will just access it through the web interface.

Would have been nice to be able to have offline access to it...

Thanks guys for your input.
