I agree posts should be polite and with as much complete information as possible, whatever the forum, software or nature of the post.
However just because this is open source, community and sponsor company based software, doesn't mean we should expect poor quality software, quite the reverse.
Part of an ongoing problem for Zimbra is lack of wider community participation in the code itself and encouraging low expectations on various aspects of quality won't encourage active involvement and the vital real user feedback software like this needs to develop and thrive. With open source it is not the users that need humility but project coders and designers so they can hear more of what the users says the software needs to accomplish rather than the interesting features they want to implement. I think a little indignation and shouting from a user is better than deference to the programmers, in this case, paid to develop the code. One of the points of open source is to balance the power and align the interests better between users and authors.
Personally on my Linux desktop I was invited to upgrade today, which I attempted and it too failed to work. No obvious detailed feedback was given, no direct opportunity to contact the developers simply a 'click here to do it manually', which might solve my problem but doesn't help improve the software. If that happens for a director or senior manager in a company using Zimbra it will cause more damage to Zimbra's reputation than a vocal member of the forum posting in exasperation.
Not having a go at you, just I think the balance should be put that Zimbra is out to make a profit by writing brilliant software more cheaply than with proprietary techniques by using the experience of a much wider pool of users. What funds the development is that some people will pay to support critical Zimbra based operations. That is not the same as a few people giving their time to a project alongside a day job such as with some F/OSS projects out there, and again that is not a criticism of Zimbra or VMWare just noting the range of types of projects.
As a long time member of the community, I don't mind exasperation of the OP, but like you I too would find rude and impolite posts counter productive!
