Default Zimbra Desktop as Default Mail App

Service provider recently outsourced mail service to Windows Live. I'm looking for a decent e-mail application as I really could care less about WL automatic social networking, messenger, photo detection, etc.

Ideally I'd have a web based application that I could access all of my e-mail on several different machines.

? Does Zimbra Desktop do what I am after
? Is using webmail only a bad move and should I consider keeping Thunderbird (or some other app)
? Any links to information for a Zimbra newbie
