Default Setting Zimbra Desktop as default mail client in XP/Vista/Win 7

Can Zimbra Desktop be registered as the default mail client in XP/Vista/Win 7 so that commands such as "start mailto" work? We are migrating from Outlook Express. I have an application that uses quite a few instances of the "start mailto <email address>". All those links will break if I can't set the default email client to ZD. I am running the latest version.

Thanks.

Yes it can. Just tick the check box "Use Zimbra Desktop as default mail application" on tab Preferences.

Except in Windows 7 Pro 64bit. IT DOESN'T WORK! And it still doesn't work in 2.01 either. Get "unable to load configuration file" error.

Not working for me in Win7 Enterprise 64bit. "Use Zimbra Desktop as default mail app" is grayed out.

It's the same for me (7 pro x64 + ZD 2.0.1)

Scr 1 - Grayed option : http://risinsmok.alwaysdata.net/scrsh/grayed_opt.jpg
Scr 2 - error message after explicitly setting up zdesktop.exe as my default handler for mailto links : http://risinsmok.alwaysdata.net/scrs...msg_ZDLoad.jpg

I got mine working... These are the steps I use to make it work:

As an Admin, I went to the registry and make the following changes:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT>mailto>shell>open>command and set default as
HTML Code:
"C:\Program Files\Zimbra\Zimbra Desktop\win32\prism\zdclient.exe" -url "%1"
Next, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Clients>Mail and set the default as
HTML Code:
Zimbra Desktop
Exit your registry and restart your computer... You should be all set after you go to internet options>programs> and set Zimbra Desktop as default instead of Outlook.

Let me know if it works for you
