Default Support SSL when sending and receiving mail from Google account

Hi all!
I have a general question on google mail account set up in ZDesktop.
When one sets up a gmail account in Zimbra does Zimbra use a secure connection for receiving and sending mails/calendar/contacts?
When I set up an IMAP account manually I have a choice to use a secure connection for incoming and outgoing mails but how does the application sets up a default gmail account?
Appreciate feedback.

Texas.

Yes, it uses SSL for gmail.

Gmail only supports SSL - according to their info, you can't connect to them without SSL even if you wanted to.
