Autocomplete Inconsistent

I'll just ask my question, How come autocompleting an email address that is in the contact list is not populating? If I type an M in the "To:" field, I should get 15 different names. It seems all I get are recently emailed names that begin with M?

I've looked at all the preferences and don't see where there is a setting to make that happen.
