Will not sned or recive emails

I installed desktop and configured my accounts accordingly and everything worked fine until I shut my system down. Now when I open ZD I cannot send or receive any emails from specific accounts, eg hotmail but other hotmail accounts send and receive perfectly well. ALL accounts are set up in an identical manner and all worked in outlook but ZD cannot seem to cope with it. I also had to configure hotmail accounts as POP because the Lie Hotmail option could not connect and constantly told me that the account did not exist. In addition I check the accounts via web mail and show numbers of new mails, eg 10 but when ZD finally decides to connect and retrieve mails it only takes 2-3 but manages to delete all 10 from the server. What is causing this and how can it be rectified?
