Default Disabling TLS for Gmail\Yahoo connections

Hi,

My network administrator at work is a "security" freak and he monitors everything going out of the network. Therefore he has disabled TLS/SSL because he can't monitor it.

How do I configure Zimbra Desktop to connect to my Yahoo and Gmail accounts via regular unsecure protocols (imap/smtp) ?

Thanks !

Mose,

This is can be very simple. All you need to do is onc you are logged into your Zimbra mail client;
1) Preference > Accounts
2) Select Add External account.
3) Fill in the required field
a. Email address
b. Zccount name
c. Account type (imap POP3 )
d. Email Server. ( You will need t aquire this information from Yahoo or Gmail. There Internal and SMTP server information should be available.

Once all of the proper information has been filled in orrectly you can now connect your Zimbra client to any external email provider.

Hope this information was found helpful.

Thank you for your reply.
I understand what you mean, worked for Gmail, Thanks !

But Yahoo only allows paying users to connect via POP3.
Somehow the zimbra client under some preconfigured settings connects to yahoo, to a regular account I might add.
I am unable to duplicate those configurations.
Unless you can tell me how to ?
(or we can just disable TLS/SSL)...

Thanks !

your correct. Yahoo requires their users to upgrade to a different account that you pay for to get the proper information/access to connect to your POP3 account.

These are the server settings for yahoo. Test at your own risk.

Incoming mail server settings

* POP server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
* Use SSL
* Port: 995

Outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings

* SMTP server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
* Use SSL
* Port: 465
* Use authentication

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I did what you instructed me, I understood it's supposed to be a POP account.
When I click "Validate and Save" I get the following error string:
"Yahoo! Mail access must use IMAP"

The zimbra desktop doesn't even try to connect to the server's you mentioned.
I think, It's programmed not to allow manual connections to yahoo.

Any idea's ?

Thanks alot !
