Default [SOLVED] Sync POP account to GMAIL?

What we want to do is this:

We'd like Zimbra to manage a POP account
and sync that account -- calendar, contacts, mail --
with GMAIL.

Is that possible? Thanks!

First of all, POP only handles mail, not calendars or contacts. Second POP is only for downloading, not syncing, IMAP is a much better choice for that.

If you really want to use POP to access Gmail, you will first need to enable it in your Gmail settings, afterwords you simply set it up in Zimbra Desktop.

Okay. We have a Google Apps domain account, so our email is myemail@mydomain.com

So, if I need to sync contacts & calendar, I shouldn't use the above as a POP?

Or, should I be using IMAP? (I can use the above Google App domain account with IMAP and sync calendar & contacts?)

If so, could you explain a bit about IMAP.
Thanks much.

Ok I think I understand what you are trying to do now. You want Zimbra Desktop to sync your email, calendar, and contacts with a Gmail account correct?

To do that simply make sure that IMAP access is enabled in your Gmail settings and then add a new "Gmail" type account in Zimbra Desktop. When you select this account type it should give you the option of also synchronizing your Calendars, Contacts, and Groups.

Yes, that sounds right.
This is what I've done:

1. Enabed IMAP in Gmail
2. Created an IMAP account in Zimbra; validated & saved.
3. I created a bunch of test calendar, contact and email records on the Google side.

Now, it should sync?

(I think) I found this setting under Google Apps Service Settings | Mobile | Enable Google Sync

Does that seem correct?

You should have "Gmail" as one of the available account types. Selecting IMAP as the account type will not let you sync contacts or calendar. You have to select Gmail as the account type.

So...
In Zimbra, it should be a "Gmail" account -- NOT an "IMAP" account?

If you want the contacts and calendar to sync, yes. Setting it up as an IMAP account would only give you access to the mail. Although your account is a hosted Apps account, the format and access is the same as it is for Gmail.

Remember to leave IMAP enabled in the Gmail settings, as the "Gmail" type account still uses IMAP to access the mail.
