Default ZDesktop search

It appears that when you ask desktop to search a folder, it does not automatically search subfolders of that folder. Is that an error or is that the designed behavior? Is there any way to force desktop to search subfolders of a particular folder without going through and checking them all? TIA

You shouldn't need to specify a folder, just enter the search item and hit enter.

OK, I understand. I have a default of in:inbox, so I was changing it to in:some_other_folder rather than leaving it blank and was only getting messages from some_other_folder. Does that mean there is no way to search a subtree of the folders, that I can either search all messages or just in the individual folders I select? What I really want is when I select folder1, it will search folder1/sub1, folder1/sub2, etc.

under:folder

Bug 14781 - Search by folder should optionally include subfolders

If you have show search syntax on in preferences you could experiment with turning it off and your searches will do is:anywhere automatically when there's no other syntax appended.

The default search if what is displayed when you start the ZD or Zeimbra web UI and is "in:inbox or is:unread", that's the view you see when you open the client.

That specific option isn't available at the moment but a search will go through all of the folders and return the results you request.

<Rant'n'rave deleted>

I had a problem with not getting recursive searches by default.

Then I discovered that if I unselect the option "Show advanced search language in search toolbar", I get a "search everything" by default. This solved my immediate problem and I removed the rant.

However, that option is so misnamed! I actually thought it had something to do with the "Advanced" button in the search toolbar.

Besides, from the usability point of view, I don't think selecting something to be visible/hidden in a box should change the actual functionality of the search.
