With several thousand emails in my inbox I want to move many of them to a local folder. I can do this 100 at a time by going screen to screen and draggin, but is there a faster/easier way to do this?

Connect to your account using an IMAP client (Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, Evolution, KMail, etc). Then just drag/drop the messages from one folder to another.
