Fair enough. I've done it and I really hope it helps.

The reason I didn't vote before was because I did not have faith in the process...I really don't know how the absence of a feature which locks out tens of thousands of potential users (IMO) could be classified as an enhancement (in the original bug).

But hopefully, support for Windows Live will be coming...it's a great product with lots of potential.

Btw, this isn't a criticism directed at anyone...the developers and the community which supports this software are great! It's just really frustrating when you've got a great product but it has one tiny deal breaker.

Thanks for your quick response Bill.

I have been requesting this for ages. I dont understand how a multi email integration client can leave out proper support for the world's largest email provider. I have moved all email accounts other than yahoo to the Live mail client, and come the day yahoo offers free pop or imap (which wont be too far if yahoo wants to last in this race) im going to move them to live mail too. I liked the zimbra interface but lack of any response to fix such a huge issue has driven me away.

Unfortunately Hotmail is quite determined to close down WebDAV access completely on Sept 1st so there will be no Zimbra or Outlook Express or Entourage access at all. Their excuse is that POP3 will be the only supported non-MSFT access which of course is untenable for all but the most primitive email usage. Only Outlook and Windows Live Mail will be supported

Users on the MSFT support forums are understandably frustrated and as both the author of the Zimbra Hotmail integration and a roughly 15 years user, I'm being forced to convert to Ymail/Gmail along with the rest. Please voice concern on the Hotmail support forum, but prepare to change email accounts if you want to use non-MSFT mail clients. Zimbra Ymail and Gmail integration are more complete with contact and calendar sync anyways.

firstly i do use yahoo, gmail and hotmail. now you said yourself, that hotmail is forcing people to use the most primitive of mail access - POP - and if zimbra cannot support the most primitive of accesses then what is the point. i can access my live mail just fine through thunderbird or any other mozilla client, but zimbra. so i dont see why claiming that "oh they only support pop, thats so lame" is a good excuse. just lookup how thunderbird supports hotmail pop "with" leaving messages on server, and implement that.

also, im still better off with hotmail than with yahoo because at the very least hotmail gives me pop. yahoo does not even offer that free. the only client one is forced to use is zimbra, which is crippled by the bad hotmail support. so saying that i should shift from hotmail to yahoo does not even make sense, i will go from an average provider to a poor one as far as mail access is concerned.

I wasn't aware that Thunderbird works flawlessly with Hotmail.

I think there's some type of miscommunication between us and tfr...to put Electron's and my view in plain English:
- we don't care about POP, POP3, WebDAV or any other protocol
- we do care about getting our hotmail on Zimbra while leaving a copy of messages on the server
- our question: if Thunderbird - a non-MS software and open source, I believe - can accomplish this, then why can't Zimbra?

Electron, please edit this if incorrect.

thats right. while being quite sound on things technical, i really dont care who uses what protocol and how to deal with it, all i want is getting my hotmail on zimbra while leaving a copy on the server, just like thunderbird does it.

in the long race yahoo will lose if it doesnt offer client access like the other providers and so will zimbra if it doesnt offer support for popular mail servers. if yahoo does really start offering pop or imap free, i dont see much reason to use zimbra over thunderbird, however if zimbra takes up this seriously and corrects their approach to pop, then i will gladly recommend it to anyone since it is an otherwise amazing software.

just a routine check to see if zimbra devs woke up.

apparently not.

also the website lists zimbra desktop supporting hotmail, and the comparison guide lists that too. thats almost like false advertising.

resuming outlook + ypops!

Default Vote for these bugs to notify the Zimbra team of the problem.

It seems that this bug has now moved from just Zimbra Desktop into the entire ZCS suite.

Please be sure to vote for Bug #30643 and Bug #41213 to let the Zimbra team know this bug is important to resolve.

i just dont see how this is NOT a showstopper for any enterprise level product. its sad that it had to come to this before being given due importance.

it will be a killer if it goes unnoticed.

I voted for both of those bugs, even though I don't use hotmail.

I wonder does anyone know what the deal is with support here? This thread is a good example of what feels like rather tepid support from zimbra staff. zimbra desktop is so good - I don't really get how it's so good, but feels like it's just creeping along. Maybe zd devs are actively working on bug fixes and revisions, and forum support is just not a priority? I hope this app does not fade out on us.
