[SOLVED] Password protection

I like zimbra it's nice and easy. Great for anyone living by email contact and whatever. It's about time.

But for the Desktop Client on Windows. I would like to password protect it so when you log into Zimbra you enter in your password and you are set. Can't be too careful these days.

Bug 27005 - Prompt for password in offline client (for zimbra/non zimbra accounts)
Bug 14713 - encrypt offline messages

Based on feedback I've seen, even though you can still find/search the store folder on disk, some want RFE 27005 for pass now anyways - as someone dropping by and navigating the store isn't as 'easy' as opening Zimbra Desktop. (It's really a false sense of security though.)

Current best practice is to set a OS level password (login/screensaver & not share accounts), OS encryption or storage/disk encryption.

So based on the advice already provided I presume you do lock your screen when away from the computer ? and that you are encrypting your hard disk; as I would hate for any of your information to be compromised

locking a screen means nothing when someone can access the data from a hard drive.

Much the way thunderbird works their should be a protective password.

Windows passwords can be easily bypassed now a days.

It is indeed and all comments are welcome With that said Bugzilla Main Page is a place for RFE (Request For Enhancements) and Buglets to be placed. The Zimbra team monitor that site and the Project Management team prioritise requests based on it.

That behind said with respect to the comments you have made, which I believe are valid, there are other aspects which should be addressed. I agree locking a screen can be bypassed, as much as protecting a document or spreadsheet, hence the suggestion that the whole drive is encrypted. The technology is very cheap now, and a single investment can protect everything you do on your computer.

Everybody takes security very serious these days and I am sure you questions will not go un-answered by the Zimbra team, but as mmorse said in your previous thread there are other ways of securing your confidential data.
