    Default Threaded Display is Wrong

    Howdy,

I'm using Zimbra Desktop and threaded display is grouping un-related emails. It is only happening occasionally (some emails) and they don't seem to have anything in relation aside from the date I received them. It is also an issue online.

We use subject-based threading. For replies with no subject (e.g. "RE:"), Zimbra Desktop sees that the messages have the same normalized subject and assumes that they're in the same thread.

I certainly hope that it's possible to force *only* In-Reply-To based threading.

Not yet. Like GMail, we support only subject-based threading at present.

    Well, that's a shame.

Cause I'm the mail admin, and I spend half my life on mailing list traffic, and if you can't thread properly, then I just can't use the client for my mail at all.

Which isn't good on the dogfood front.

That RFC is about 28 years old; why is it that that's not implemented?

    Bug Filed.

And just so I'm perfectly clear to, say, dijichi2; paying customer here. I probably *could* fix it -- though this one's admittedly a bit complicated, and since ZCS is *not* GPLd, I can't steal the threading code from Mutt -- but I shouldn't have to for a couple grand a year.

Oh, look: It was already a bug. Filed against 3.2.

    I'm really at a loss.

    Hi!

I agree that ignoring the headers and using something as, comparatively, arbitrary as the subject seems very strange..

Baylink, I suggest you vote for 5935. I don't know how much it matters but i guess it won't hurt!

Thanks for reminding me; I mentioned the seat-count of the hanging sale, but didn't actually cast the vote.

Since no one official appears to be commenting on the bug, I'm not sure it matters... but I'm sure I'll next find out that Z doesn't understand the mailing list headers, *either*, so...
