if this is not possible, a short post saying "this is currently not possible" would be nice.
A roundabout way you could do it is upload the mail to the same IMAP account (Gmail, Ymail, whatever) you're going to be using with Zimbra, then the emails would show up on the online server, and you'd always have a backup online too.
I personally used Outlook to upload all my Sent Mail and backed-up e-mail from my less generous university e-mail account to a GMail account specially set up for my backups (all mail from all my email addresses has a copy forwarded here), and I can bring this account up with Zimbra with no problem.
In your case, you can upload your old emails to your primary account if you don't have use for a backup account (or three)
