Default seeing all messages in a thread

One side effect of paged message viewing is that you don't see all items in a thread if some of them are old enough to be off the page.

Could Zimbra add a feature that includes all messages in a thread in the message view, even if they'd otherwise be off the page?

Why don't you use Conversation View? Perhaps you're talking about a non-Zimbra server?

This is with a regular IMAP server.

I don't see anything in Options, but there's a View > By Conversation option in the main Mail interface. That groups things by conversation, but as far as I can tell you only see those messages in a conversation that fall in the first 100 messages (or however many you've chosen to show per page). If the conversation contains older messages they aren't shown.

No, the conversation should span all messages in the entire mailbox.

Come to think of it, why wouldn't the Desktop version of Zimbra do away with paging altogether in favor of a more desktop-like list (with lazy replication as necessary)?

    for 3 reasons:

    1. online/offline user experience should as close as possible. many users use both, so it's awkward if they behave differently.

    2. cost of implementing two different ways to display messages.

    3. we believe using search is a lot better way to navigate messages than using a vertical scrollbar. with good queries user will rarely need to paginate.
