Default I mean use my zimbra without installing zimbra on computer before.

Log in as guest, run binary file zdclient.exe and open my zimbra data.
Is it possible? I can not do - many errors.

If Your Administrator has used Client Policy with allowed windows applications

than it is possible that you can't use it on you corporate network since Portable version of zimbra runs with 4 exe files and the files are Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop 1.0.exe witch calls 3 other files zdesktop.exe and zdclient.exe and java.exe

you can try and to override this Policy setting by renaming the Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop 1.0.exe to a known windows application such as notepad.exe or winword.exe or explorer.exe .I don't think that the other two files will work after and if you rename those two.The reason that you are having errors is because one of the two files are not executed.

The usb drive must be larger then 512 MB since only the .DAT file has 200 mb
after starting portable edition it creates a folderstructure like this ..

ANY DRIVE:
├───%drive_D%
│ └───z
│ └───zdesktop
│ ├───derby
│ │ ├───log
│ │ ├───seg0
│ │ └───tmp
│ ├───jetty
│ │ └───logs
│ ├───log
│ ├───profile
│ │ ├───Cache
│ │ ├───extensions
│ │ │ └───Inquisitor@yahoo
│ │ │ └───cache
│ │ └───searchplugins
│ ├───redolog
│ ├───store
│ │ ├───0
│ │ │ └───1
│ │ │ └───msg
│ │ │ └───0
│ │ └───incoming
│ └───win32
│ └───prism
│ └───updates
│ └───0
├───%Temp%
│ ├───hsperfdata_%username%
│ └───skinres
│ └───latest
└───Stubs
├───a4b14b566c16eda48bd6f44ebfa19851747a
└───a77f62e4a9f1fe8c60975e58977bf1c382cf52e

Stubs folder is a Random generated Name and in one folder zdclient is located and in the other is zdesktop
the initial or the main executable is Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop 1.0.exe and that file is created by thininstall in that file there is a set of instructions that basically start the exe's and creates the neccesary files just like in Zimbra Desktop.

I am using zimbra desktop portable without prior installation of Zimbra Desktop

You can look here how zimbra desktop portable Works .

You will see in Task Manager the Two files that i've been talking about and
Services view Of Microsoft Management console that there are no Zimbra services installed previously.

YouTube - Zimbra Desktop Portable

Zimbra Portable has one more advantage other than portable drives you can also use it on multiple accounts.
When you install Zimbra Desktop you can only use it on one ACCOUNT.
Untill Zimbra Releases the Desktop Edition for AllUsers.

Default Yahoo Mail is portable, why not Zimbra?

I tried using the portable Zimbra, but it fails giving Unauthorized Access as reason.

I use Yahoo Mail because I can access it from anywhere, but now that I have multiple Yahoo accounts I use Zimbra for convenience.

Sadly, Zimbra isn't Portable and the developers appear uninterested in sorting that out.

Even if one never carries their Zimbra install anywhere, it would also make backing it up or migrating to a new computer trivially easy.

Default Could you elaborate on that

as you see in previous post that i am using zimbra as a portable solution for mails ?

If you have unauthorized access .is your PC on DOMAIN or is it VISTA ?

I mentioned that i have only tested successfully on WINDOWS XP with java installed
and i have uploaded video on YOUTUBE where you can see for you self that zimbra can work as a portable solution

Thank you

Thanks for your work!

EDIT: Thanks VERY MUCH FOR YOUR WORK!

My system is running a recent clean install of XP Corp (not a warez copy!) fully updated. Java is installed. It is on a Workgroup, not a domain. I'm running as Administrator for test purposes.

EDIT:
I was able to make a working portable Zimbra using Thinapp per your advice.

I prescanned my system, installed Zimbra normally, postscanned the system, and built per the (easy) Thinapp wizard. Deleted the Zimbra install and all registry keys (easily found when prescanning) to return system to clean state. Load time is slow due to my slow USB key, but that's not an issue.

Now all my Windows Zimbra installs will be Thinstalls, and when inevitable Winrot sets in I can happily revert to portable backup or rescue my current Zimbra by copying it off.

Being able to download emails for offline work is nice, but being able to save the whole program make it far nicer.
