Asking for advice-Zimbra Desktop Mac installation.

:) Dear Zimbra guys, :)

may I kindly ask you for your
technical advice to Mac user ?

What password do I have to
type when starting my Zimbra
Desktop ver. 0.90 build 1249
installation on my Intel iMac
2.4 GHz with Mac OS X – 10.5.4
Leopard ?

Do I have to enter my administrator
account password or another one ?

By the way, I use a blank password
(none) as my administrator password.

What does it mean as below ?

“You must be a member of the
Administrator group”

For your information :

1. I’ve been a registered member
of Zimbra Forum since today.
2. I haven’t been a support user
yet.
3. I’m the only administrator user
of my iMac computer (single user
with administrator’s privileges).
4. I’ve got a Yahoo membership
and e-mail free account.

What do you recommend me to
manage my Zimbra installation ?
Any additional installations e.g.?

It's asking you for the password for the account you are running the installer as. The account that you are running this as needs to have administrative rights. Also: make sure you run the installer as the user you plan to use Zimbra Desktop with. It installs to data to your home directory.

I'm evaluating zimbra & z desktop for a deployment on macs at work. I followed advice from various people suggesting to use an non-admin user for your everyday work, instead of a full admin user. So far I had no problems with this setup because for installations software would simply ask for authentication.

With the desktop solution that doesnt work. Any plans to amend/change that? It would seem like good housekeeping to allow for it.

yes, we have an enhancement bug opened for this:
Bug 35087 – support installing/running ZD as non-privileged user

you can also set your account to be admin user temporarily. after installing ZD, you can change the account type back.

ah, thanks for the tip. Temporarily turning it on would be no problem.

I am so lost. just wnat to use this software. I had it a long itme ago.....and loved it. now I cant even install without a password. ADMINISTRATOR GROUP!!!!!!!! HELP!
