Mac Mail folder import

hi, I have ben searching and finding a lot of answers on server installs, but what I am trying to do is import, copy extract, or whatever all of my mail folders in iMail on OSX into the mac Zimbra desktop version. I have 3 accounts, all pop, and when I set them up, all the email still on the mail server (gmail, etc.) comes in, but I want all of my "filed emails" to be imported as the are also.

Welcome to the forums,
I assume your "filed emails" = local folders for your POP accounts. You'll probably have to upload them somewhere/copy them from iMail to a ZCS server/IMAP account first - then connect Zimbra Desktop to that account.

thanks for the fast reply...yes, the folders are local on my mac, unfortunately I have no imap account that I am aware of, and can barely spell imap, let alone know how it all works. guess I have some reading to do. any other pointers would be appreciated!

edit...ok, so it appears my gmail account supports imap, off to work i go!

ok, I got my imail set up with an imap gmail account, but I do not see how to "upload" the folders to gmail? Geez I feel dumb here. any ideas??

This is much easier than it seems. Simply create a new account in your Mac mail program that points to your Zimbra IMAP server.

Then simply drag your mailboxes from your local mail into the zimbra server. As long as you don't have too many toplevel email folders, this is probably the quickest/easiest way.

not sure what that means, I have the desktop zimbra, no zimbra server. would I set up the same gmail account in zimbra, and then try the copy?

edit - ok, got it, I was hoping to copy entire folder, as I have multiple sub-folders. opening the folder and copying the emails worked.

Sorry, my mistake. Here's some instructions:

Now that you have gmail, setup the gmail IMAP account using Apple Mail
1. enable imap in gmail: Enabling IMAP
2. configure your apple mail: IMAP

Once configured., you will see your google mail account in Apple Mail. Now you can drag your folders from your Pop accounts to your Google Account. They will be copied, not moved so don't worry about losing your local stuff.

I am able to move the emails themselves, but not the entire folder. Are you saying that should be possible?? I did a google search and several blogs seemed to indicate the folder copy would work also, but it does not seem to work for me. I am dragging the folder from the left on my mac mail into the new imap gmail account, and they just slip back. If I drag the emails, I get a + sign and the number of emails being copied.

aarghhh...they are not moving, they are cutting and pasting! glad I caught it early! sending them back via a third email account. my kingdom for a simple mac mail, address book and calendar import feature!!
