ZCB 5.0.19 HDW recommendation

In the release notes for ZCB 5.0.19 you can find these recommendations:
----------------------------------------------
Hardware Recommendation
Quad Core
16 GB RAM
500+ GB hard drive space

My 3 ZCB 5.0.18 servers have only 4 GB RAM. Is it OK if I upgrade to 5.0.19?

On my servers I've never seen more than 2.1 GB RAM to be used. Why are these recommendations so high? Thanks.

Hi, We are running ZCS 5.0.2711.18. What's happening is when we add a new user to Zimbra, they get added to the GAL right away. But when we delete a user, they are not removed from the GAL. This just came to our attention because we had to do a big system wide restore using restored_ accounts and low and behold, after removing the restored_ accounts, they are all still in the GAL on the BES server. Even if I shut down the BES services and go into the outlook, the Global Address Book still shows all these deleted users. Is there a way to tell outlook/ZCS to resync the GAL?

Hi all,

we're having great deal of problems with ZCS/BES lately. We've installed it 3-4 months ago and all was working perfectly (around 15 BB users). We've changed admin password on windows machine and since then we can't get sync working right.

Some devices can activate, some can't, sometimes sync stops, etc.

Can you please give me your exact versions of ZCS/BES/Connector/Windows server that works for you?

Is there any other way around Zimbra outlook connector that doen's cost a fortune to license?

One of the things that makes me nervous about ZCB is that it requires an admin user. We prefer to use one time passwords for people that can "make or break" things and clearly that wouldn't work with ZCB.

However now that we have a flexible admin priv model in 6.*, I wonder what privs does that ZCB admin user actually really need? My gut feeling is that all it really needs is adminLoginAs plus the various login, list, etc privs. My thinking is that I could create an admin user with enough privs to log in and the adminLoginAs privs to some distribution lists of BES users, plus a few more privs to make it all work.

Before I spend weeks trying to get it work, I wonder if Zimbra folks could give me a hint about what the admin user actually needs in terms of privs.

BB only receives mail after sending

We are running:
ZCS 5.0.16
BES Connector 5.0.18
Blackberry Manager 4.1.4.17

I have a strange problem with all my Blackberry users. We moved to a new server over the weekend. Now, all my BB users say they can only receive emails on their devices when they send one from the BB. For example, they can have many new messages in their inbox, but they will never show up on the BB until they actually send a message from the device. Then, all the messages will come through. So, they are having to send a message to themselves every time they want to retrieve new messages.

I am not sure what would cause this. Any ideas.

Thanks.

Blank Appointment Invitations

I've search this forum / the wiki / crackberry & Google for a solution to this issue.

Here is my problem:

Blank Calendar Appointment Invitations

When a user on a Blackberry (we only have Blackberry Tours) sends a calendar appointment invite the invitation data is sent but there is no plain text for the invitee to read in the zimbra web client so they do not know when the appointment is for. They can accept/tentative or decline the meeting. If they look in their calendar, the meeting invite is in the right time and date slot.

If you view the original content of the email you can see the meeting invite data and any notes entered but not a plain text version of the calendar invite.

Software Versions:
  Zimbra 5.0.18_GA_3011.RHEL5_64
  ZimbraConnectorForBES/5.0.2719.19
  Blackberry Professional Server 4.1.4.40

Here is the contents of the invitation sent from the Blackberry to the Zimbra user:

Is there an option I'm missing. Is anyone else getting plain text meeting invites from a BES in the Zimbra web client?

Upgrade to 6.0.2 advice

We are running:
ZCS 5.0.16
BES Connector 5.0.10
Blackberry Manager 4.1.4.17

We had a heck of a time getting the BES server to work last Fall, so I have left it alone. I plan to upgrade from ZCS 5.0.16 to 6.0.2 next weekend.

I expect the ZCS upgrade to go without a problem. We started with 4.5.x and upgrades have always been painless. My concern lies with the BES side. Should I upgrade the connector that comes with 6.0.2 on the BES server? If I leave the connector as is, on 5.0.10, will BES continue to work? Lastly, is Blackberry Mananger 4.1.4.17 compatible with 6.0.2?

Thanks,
Shannon

We need a way of communicating to our BES users in the even the server goes down and we can't send a PIN message via the BlackBerry Manager (this has happened to us).

I came across this article that let's you do this if you have the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Resource Kit installed, please click on the links for more info:

Send a notification PIN message (http://docs.blackberry.com/en/admin/deliverables/7535/Send_a_PIN_message_BBUA_438582_11.jsp)

The BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Resource Kit supplements the built-in management and reporting capabilities of BlackBerry® Enterprise Server with tools that provide administrators with greater flexibility and more insight into specific server operations.

The tools in the kit help administrators monitor, analyze, administer and report on:

    * User statistics
    * Logging
    * Errors
    * Usage
    * Wireless network coverage
    * Message flow
    * Environmental issues
    * And much more

Just wondering if anyone's installed this and if yes, what's your experience been so far?
