Are you still deploying 32bit Zimbra?

With the last several processor generations being 64-bit and the better performance/scalability to be had on a 64bit system, I'm curious to hear from everyone

1) What are your reasons for staying 32-bit in production?
2) What ZCS version & OS version are are you on now?
3) Do you plan on moving from 32 > 64-bit architecture with your next major upgrade?
4) Will you be upgrading or purchasing new hardware with your next major upgrade?
5) Do you consider your organization an early adopter or do you wait till midway through a major cycle such as 6.0.7 etc?

Zimbra was installed that way a while ago Will migrate off that server when we can.

6.0.6, Ubuntu 8.04

3) Do you plan on moving from 32 > 64-bit architecture with your next major upgrade?

Already started. Existing 32bit machines will need all the stuff migrated off them, and to be rebuilt eventually.

4) Will you be upgrading or purchasing new hardware with your next major upgrade?

Already done. And more to come.

5) Do you consider your organization an early adopter or do you wait till midway through a major cycle such as 6.0.7 etc?
Upgrade early, upgrade often we do

We run Zimbra in a vmware VI3 envirronment. Currently we have a mutliserver setup where the ldap and mta servers are 32bit and the mailbox servers are 64bit. The general advice I always read is if you don't have to go 64bit on the vm then don't. Since our ldap and mta vms only have 2gb of ram we didn't feel 64bit was necessary. Our mailbox servers have 8gb though so they are 64bit.

ZCS 5.0.21 NE on SLES 10

Probably. We plan to move to vsphere4 which is 64bit. vi3 was only a 32bit environment even though you could run 64bit vms if your processor had the virtualization technology built in.

probably staying with the same hardware for our ESX hosts.

no, which is why we're still running zcs5

Only have 2GB of memory in my mini-itx servers so no need to go 64 bit

Nope the servers runs good as is.

Personally I upgrade as soon as a new release comes out. With the company hat on we would wait a couple of point releases; this is definitely the case at the moment due to the number of buglets that have appeared in ZCS 6.

1. Our company's servers is still 32 bit and we don't want to remove them
2. Now, we use zimbra 6.0.1 on ubuntu 8.04 LTS(we look forward to still use it on ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS)
3. Yes, we hope we can change to use 64- bit
4. we always wait for new versions of zimbra, it's so great and wonderful

the overall industry move is to 64bit..
i.e: microsoft windows server 2008 R2..no 32 bit avail..only 64bit from this version onwards

all of zimbra running under VMware vSpehere 4 are on 32bit, even tough all the server hardware is 64bit and VT enabled..most of the customers have < 4gb ram and zimbra really works good for that much ram unless we have lots of imap and web users.

All of my personal servers are 32bit. Mostly for reasons that 64bit driver support under Linux has in the past been lacking or sketchy and not all applications were ported or running properly under 64bit. That may no longer be the case, but as 32bit has always been supported and working well there has not been a need to switch even though 64 bit support in the CPU has been there for some time. I do plan on testing 64bit at some point but it is not in queue at the moment. I guess it's the old, "If it ain't broke..."

1). I manage some clients and they only have 32 bit server
2). Release 6.0.5_GA_2213.SLES11_64_20100202233758 SLES11_64 FOSS edition
3). Yes. Actually, I'm currently using 64 bit server on new installation (beside the fact that SLES 11 only provided 64 version )
4). For mine or my environment, Yes, I'm an early adopter, but for my clients, no, I'll be wait for a quite stable version.
