Default Yahoo selling Zimbra news?

Yahoo reportedly considers deleting Zimbra | Relevant Results - CNET News

Is this legitimate or just random gossip?

I think Google would be a good buyer, but I have a feeling a lot of people would be uneasy with Comcast. Comcast isn't exactly considered a model business.

Who knows where this will go. We all need to hope for acquisition by a group committed to open source.

greenrenault,

As you can probably understand, for legal and business reasons we cannot comment on rumor or speculation regarding transactions that we may or may not be considering.

What we can say is that Yahoo! is Zimbra's biggest customer - the Zimbra technology engine is a critical part of Yahoo!'s core communication products (especially Mail & Calendar), which are used by millions of people monthly.

Additionally, Zimbra continues to grow -- our customer base has more than doubled in terms of the total number of paid mailboxes and organizations in the past year alone. In that same time, the Zimbra open source community has expanded by hundreds of members and thousands of downloads per month. Both Zimbra and Yahoo! are committed to ensuring that Zimbra remains a great platform choice for everyone, now and in the future.

Andy

What would be really nice right now would be the publication of a white paper
that outlined in some detail the installed base of commercial Zimbra systems.

Not just a few universitys, and a few companies, but something that would give
folks who are getting cold feet over this hack-job news release some reason
to be assured that Zimbra in fact, won't be 'deleted'.

I can tell you for a fact that California Polytechnic University - San Luis Obispo uses Zimbra, and a majority of the students prefer it over the previous Oracle email system we had. Granted, some people like the calendering system of Oracle more (no idea why), but most of us students do not use it.

I'll buy it!

I've got about 20 quid. Can someone lend me a few hundred milllion dollars?I'll pay you back, honest!

Seriously, if I could raise the VC I'd buy Zimbra.

Default RedHat?

I wish RedHat would take a look. So far, I am really impressed with them; they seem to really walk the walk rather than just talk the talk when it comes to open source.
