Default Join the Forum

To help, join the forum and contribute to the conversation. I just updated the forum with several categories to facilitate discussion. Let me know of any other categories that would be helpful.

Until we start discussing this, it is just an idea. You can make a difference by joining the forum. If you have nothing to contribute at this time, just make a post saying you support the cause. That will help a great deal!

Excellent news. Let's see how that develops.

I had mixed feelings when Yahoo bought Zimbra. Impossible to know what Yahoo wants to do with the technology in the long run. I've come around to the conclusion that as long as Yahoo lets the model grow and maybe nudge it along the direction it wants to go naturally, that is the best thing for Zimbra.

The more successful Zimbra is as a competitor to Exchange, the better. Being owned by Yahoo opens up more marketing possibilities.

Does anyone know what Yahoo's plans are for Zimbra?

If Yahoo is Zimbra friendly (for the existing community) then that is better than being divested and snapped up by a less Zimbra friendly company.

Default crazy idea

“Control your own destiny or someone else will” – Jake Welch

Yahoo rejects M$ bid. No surprises to some. But M$ wants/needs Yahoo and are willing to spend to $$ to get it, so it’s only really a matter of time before M$ puts an offer on the table that Yahoo’s shareholder are going to say “Yes Please!!!”
So here’s a crazy idea: Buy Zimbra
I don’t know if its been done before, and I can’t see why it couldn’t be done.. a web community buys a company. Why not? I’m no expert and I’m sure that there would be many hoops that would need to be jumped through to make such a thing happen.
Top of my thoughts: Invests (community individuals, companies, etc, etc) “PLEDGE” to buy shares USD$1000 each, 350,000 shares is 350million dollars (the amount Yahoo paid for Zimbra) make Yahoo an offer on Zimbra! Simple(‘ish). I’m ready to pledge for 10 share’s.
I know this would be a huge undertaking to make happen, but do we want a future for Zimba? I don’t think it’s that unrealistic idea.
I’m throwing the thought out to you; let me know what you think. Are people willing to donate time and resources into such and undertaking to get the ball started? Are people willing to invest there money in something so bold? Thoughts/reactions?
