Default Zimbra Desktop Wont Even Start
Hello,

I have a computer Vista computer running Windows Vista Home Premium with java JRE 6 Update 12 installed on it (My firefox version is 3.0.6). I installed zdesktop_1_0_build_1482_win32 on my computer. Hovewer, it never opens when try to open it. I many times completely uninstall an reinstall it. I tried to remove and reinstalled Java. Even I tried to install older zimbra betas. I checked if the computer name is incorectly set. I checked if my java is working via a web site build for this yes it is working correctly (It works !!). I manually stop an start the "Yahoo Zimbra Desktop Service" before I try to open zimbra. I checked my firewall it did not blocked 7633, I once even deleted my firewall. I tried everything mentioned in the forum nothing helps.

When i try to open zimbra for 3 min. it tries to open then gives this message:

[JavaScript Application]
Couldn't access Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop server. If issue persists after reinstall, please check logs for errors and report to Zimbra Desktop - Zimbra - Forums.


When I manually enter my browser "http://localhost:7633/desktop/login.jsp", I see:
HTTP ERROR: 500

after many times of reinstalling, i think your zd is in a strange state. since you did not have any user data to reserve, can we start from scratch again - that way is easier for us to diagnose the problem.

please uninstall it first. if it fails to uninstall, follow this instruction to manually uninstall it:

Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop FAQ - Zimbra :: Wiki

after the uninstall, make sure this folder is empty: C:\Users\gem\AppData\Local\Zimbra\zdesktop

now, run the installer again. if it fails, please upload installation.log and zdesktop.log.

by the way, zd comes with its own jre (so your own java installation is not a problem). also, you have to be an admin user to install zd on vista.

My user account which is gem is an Administrator account.

I Uninstalled my zdesktop_1_0_build_1482_win32.

Then I deleted :
C:\Users\gem\AppData\Local\Zimbra
C:\Users\gem\AppData\Roaming\Yahoo! Inc
C:\Users\gem\AppData\Roaming\Yahoo!\Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop
C:\Users\gem\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Extensions\zd esktop@zimbra.com

Then I run "Ccleaner" and "Advanced System Care 3" to remove any obsolete registry key entries and temporary files releated with zimbra installation.

I restarted my computer and start the zdesktop_1_0_build_1482_win32 from scratch. Then I restart my computer after the installation finishes. I checked and and see that “Yahoo Zimbra Desktop Service" is working. Then I tried to start zimbra I get the sam error again.

It tries to open for 3-5 min. then gives this message again:

hi, have same problem
installation finishes with "injection of zimlets failed, some features...."
when I run by the desktop icon for ZD, it opens and after a while it says
desktop server cannot be reached. Service is working. uninstalled and reinstalled several times.
I used "zdesktop_1_0_build_1482_win32.exe" to install
win xp sp2

it seems problem is about this build only.
it was my first attempt to use zimbra. i didnt upgraded from older version.
I closed anti-virus, etc. Done re-install alot.

then all same, service seems to working, port listens etc

edit: forum seems to have some problem about net? very slow (2-3 minutes to open a page), my net seems ok, checked.

edit2: added install.log under install4j

Zimbar: can you zip up your entire derby directory and send it to us? You may open a bug at Bugzilla Main Page. make sure you check the box of "Make bug visible only to reporter and Zimbra". you can attach the zip file to the bug. Thanks.

Alternatively, you can save the 3 user data dirs:derby, store, index, and follow these instructions to do a manual uninstall, then do a fresh installation of RC2 (build 1513).
