Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services, right-click on Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop Service->Properties, what do you have for "Path to executable" ?

I have solved the problem. It's a Windows registry issue where the path name of the service needed quotations since it contained spaces and/or zdesktop was also a directory name. Please see Event ID 7000 and "%1 Is Not a Valid Win32 Application" Error Message When You Start a Service

Don't know whether that is a bug in the windows installation routine or not.

Cheers

Ah, nice work.

But it sounds like this problem only exists on XP SP3. Anyway, we will try to find a way to workaround this. Thanks for you help.

Hello,

I have a computer Vista computer running Windows Vista Home Premium with java JRE 6 Update 12 installed on it (My firefox version is 3.0.6). I installed zdesktop_1_0_build_1482_win32 on my computer. Hovewer, it never opens when try to open it. I many times completely uninstall an reinstall it. I tried to remove and reinstalled Java. Even I tried to install older zimbra betas. I checked if the computer name is incorectly set. I checked if my java is working via a web site build for this yes it is working correctly (It works !!). I manually stop an start the "Yahoo Zimbra Desktop Service" before I try to open zimbra. I checked my firewall it did not blocked 7633, I once even deleted my firewall. I tried everything mentioned in the forum nothing helps.

When i try to open zimbra for 3 min. it tries to open then gives this message:

[JavaScript Application]
Couldn't access Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop server. If issue persists after reinstall, please check logs for errors and report to Zimbra Desktop - Zimbra - Forums.

When I manually enter my browser "http://localhost:7633/desktop/login.jsp", I see:
HTTP ERROR: 500

I have the same error, just started today after Windows Defender cleaned a Settings Modifier alert. Now Zimbra does not work & I get this error.

My question is how do I reinstall it, do I simply download the install file & run it? If so, is there a chance I will lose all of the e-mail information I have in my Zimbra folders?

I know this sound like a dumb question but I just want to play it safe as I have alot of important e-mails saved.

Thanks,

Lou

Get today's Defender update, and install it.

Then, check your hosts file (in %systemroot%/system32/drivers/etc) in Notepad, and make sure there is an entry that looks like:

127.0.0.1 localhost

If it's not in there, add it.

This fixed my trouble.

check out this post: http://www.zimbra.com/forums/general...p-hosts-f.html

you might not need to re-install. if you do, just download it and run. you will not lose emails.

to make sure, you can first backup these 3 folders: derby, index and store.

Default Uninstall issue...

When uninstalling zimbra, it leaves the following directory intact.
C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Zimbra

If this directory is not deleted manually then reinstall does not work.
Delete this directory first before reinstalling.
I did and the reinstall worked.

Note: searching for this folder (Zimbra) may not detect it on Vista (becuase that folder is hidden.

Also on XP the above directory may be located at a different place.
Probably this folder contains user data also, so may want to save it first before deleting parent directory...

P.S.: this post appies to the Zdesktop client, btw.
