RMMM, can you give me your first 5000 lines of your zdesktop.log file?
RMMM, can you give me your first 5000 lines of your zdesktop.log file?
It's in the following attachment, gzipped:
zdesktop.log.5000.txt.gz
RMMM, that's already a rotated file. please find the earliest zdesktop.log.xxx and provide the first 5000 lines of that.
Here's the first 5000 lines of the earliest log file:
zdesktop.log.2008-10-19.5000.gz
I can confirm a similar issue which also affects installation.
I'm using a MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and Mac OS X 10.5.5.
Using Java Preferences I had set the preferred Java applet and application versions to Java SE 6 64-bit. In terminal when I do java -version I get
java version "1.6.0_07"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06-153)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0_07-b06-57, mixed mode)
When I launched Zimbra Desktop (0_90_build_1278_macos_intel) it sat around for a while (the red dots) before putting up a dialog box that says "[JavaScript Application] Couldn't start Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop server, giving up."
Next I tried to install zdesktop_0_91_build_1344_macos_intel and after selecting English as my language, I got a dialog box that says ""zimbra desktop requires intel-based mac". (Note: I haven't been able to reproduce this after restoring defaults in Java Preferences and then setting 1.6 to preferred again. Perhaps restarting the Mac would do the trick.)
After finding this thread I used Java Preferences to Restore Defaults. java -version yields
java version "1.5.0_16"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_16-b06-284)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_16-133, mixed mode, sharing)
I can now launch the 0.9 desktop application.
When I launch the 0.91 installer, it works normally and 0.91 also launches normally.
I would report this as a bug but I'm not sure exactly where to do so...the bugzilla form seems oriented to server issues. If anyone else reports this as a bug please post the number to this thread so I can add my report.
We have a known issue that on mac we are not compatible with 1.6 vm. I just filed this bug:
Bug 33324 – desktop on mac not compatible with 1.6 VM
