Default CalDAV support in Zimbra 5

Hi all,

Not sure if it has been asked, or already in the first Beta of Zimbra 5 (I havent downloaded it and installed to check) but are there plans to include CalDav support in the final GA version of Zimbra 5. Also if so, will it be included in both the Network version and Open Source version.

Cheers
bigmudcake.

No, it's not scheduled to be included in release 5 and I believe it's due for the major release after 5. Check in bugzilla for exact details and vote.

I vaguely remember in some previous release there was start of support for caldav that people got talking to. certainly there is some code in the codebase for it:

Bug 6052 - CalDAV support

but i would hazard a guess it's not very useable yet. there's no reference in the bug trail as to which branch of code it's in.

I must admit I am a little suprised it will not be considered for v5 release.

I believe the timing would be right since Apple's OSX 10.5 will be released in October with full support and Mozilla's calandar clients maturing very quickly. Plus in my opinion, the addition of CalDAV is like going from POP to IMAP in the mail world, it is a technology that would add greatly to a v5 release.

I see some things with less votes have been targeted then others with more votes so I am not too sure if its worthwhile voting.

Targetting also has a lot to do with how complex a particular project it. The basics of the CalDAV code are in the Zimbra tree already, but it's a fairly complex sub system.

Documents, for example, have also been in the tree forever, and they are still beta at heart.

Thanks for the explanation, as it helps me and others understand the whys and whats of what makes inclusion to a release.

Also makes me more confident to vote, so I better get voting

Default Confused about Zimbra support for CalDAV

I'm confused about the Zimbra support for CalDAV. Browsing the forums, I've seen responces that claim that Zimbra does not yet support CalDAV, not even in version 5.

Yet there are at least two mentions on the Zimbra product page that appear to contradict this:

http://www.zimbra.com/products/deskt...atibility.html

and

http://www.zimbra.com/products/zimbra_calendar.html

both state that Zimbra supports open standards and mentions CalDAV specifically. So which is it? Is CalDAV supported or not?

(Don't get me wrong. I really hope it is. It would make life so much easier for a Mac user to have *real* calendar capabilities instead of sync only.)
