APIs for creating appointments, etc

Hi,

Is there any API available in Zimbra (REST or SOAP or any other type of API) for creating items such as appointments in a user's calendar?

I assume there is some kind of API for this kind of functionality, but I haven't been able to find any documentation on the forum or the wiki. Any pointers are welcome!

I am creating a Zimlet that reads some of this information in, and I'd like to be able to write certain kinds of objects back to Zimbra.
