Default XMPP/Jabber integration

What about an XMPP/Jabber integration? Presence should be a very welcome
feature for a collaboration suite.

Is this already on the wishlist or even planned for future releases?

Default Requirements

Can you tell us more about how you see IM and presence integrated into our platform? We are building out our view but I would be interested in hearing your wish list.

May I point you to meebo.com. If you could convince them of the open source idea. The meebo.com did not make up their minds yet.

It's no XMPP stuff but promising AJAX im client.

Default Online

I see the Jabber integration more as a jump-point than an actual client-integration.

You're ckecking your mail, and you mouse over a contact to get their full name and maybe their phone number, and in the bubble it says "online". Right-click their name or whatever and you can click "send this person and IM". That last part may be too client-specific, but at least knowing that they are online at that moment would be useful.

Agree. This type of use case is something we'd like to get to. It's on our list.

another obvious one would be to give instant notification of mails via jabber, like google talk.

More interesting would be able to seamlesly able to im the contact instead of mailing. let's say i am about to mail you about some thing, and when I start to compose, rather than sending a full mail, I should be able to im. (for example the address drop down will have an icon indicating that you are online and I can click that to open an im session in the browser itself aka meebo.com)

Think of it like quick email exchanges, and the whole thing can be archived as a conversation.

IM by it's nature is email fastforwaded. When I want to talk to some one, if I can im them first, that should get priority.

btw, this is my first post in the forum. I am terribly excited about this. I have a project to migrate about 13,000 accouts from an iPlanet installation and was just looking around for an AJAX based imap client, but found some thing truly out of this world. Way to go people. My best wishes!

Default IM Integration

I'm looking in to use Zimbra to integrate the Jabber IM in the following topics
1. Share identities
2. Contact share
3. Search portal to search the message contents within Zimbar as well IM stored messages.
4. [Looking at more features]

I have noticed that your team also looking in to similar possible integration. Is there any topic or contact to get more information on this

Default Instant Messaging Integration.

we have a complete IM platform developed which would easily allow you to build IM clients using AJAX, Flash, HTML, etc, Pretty much any client platform.

The platform is called BuddyStream, you can check it out at www.buddystream.com. We support over 20 IM networks ranging from AIM, ICQ, MSN, YAHOO, IRC, Jabber, Sametime, Novell, QQ, etc. we also suppot things like presencec, notifications, alerts and bots.

IM could be used in many ways with the zimbra platform, things like adding presence next to user names to tell whether they are onlineor not, adding such presence links to notes, calendars, email footers, contact lists, withing the address book, etc.

Have the ability to hold group chats instantly when there is a question by one of teh group members, be able to send back instant messages to other co-workers or friends, etc. really, the list goes on and on.

you can also check out our api here :

thank you - samer

Lotus Notes has a nice tie in with Sametime that places a presence icon next to a mail message if the sender is available. This might be a "nice to have" feature.
