Default Where are we at?

A search on zimbra and jabber returns only this forum.

Any update?

I think there are some other threads on the subject, but the forums engine won't let you search for 'IM' because the string is too short.

In any case, it seems to be 'mostly' working in 5.0RC1. The Zimbra folks have it labeled as "beta" for the 5.0 general release. It also supports AOL, MSN, and other XMPP server communication.

Default Is there any documentation for it anywhere?

Having the Jabber IM in beta is great, but I'd love to have some documentation. I've tried to connect my GAIM with the Jabber on our Zimbra server and I've still got no Joy. I don't see anywhere I can get further information like, say, if the Jabber server is running on a funky port, or something.

Any clues?

You need to activate this beta service, try:
Code:
zmprov mc default zimbraFeatureIMEnabled TRUE
zmprov -l -v mcf zimbraXMPPEnabled TRUE

Bye

So, that got the IM working INSIDE the Web client. I still haven't gotten it to work with GAIM/Pidgin.

Here's what I'm trying:

Protocol: Jabber
screen name: lisha
server: zimbra.ourdomain.com
Resource: Home

In "Advanced" I left the default
Connect port: 5222

No joy. I get a "read error" message when the client tries to connect.

That functionality has been disabled. I believe you can only IM from with the client to contacts on the same server.

Hmmm... Well, that kinda blows. It means I'm going to have to run ANOTHER Jabber server in house. Oh, well.

This should work without a problem. I can connect to my zimbra with Pidgin and chat with the other people. It doesn't matter it the other users work with the web interface or also with a client.

Can you reach port 5222 with telnet or something like that?

Mmmm... yup. telnet domain 5222 did work. Or, at least I should say that it connected. I wasn't able to do anything past that, since I don't know what the server was waiting for next (some xml string?).

Ah, so, I ran Wireshark while connecting to gtalk to see what an XMPP connection should look like, and then I tried to do the same in the telnet.

With Gtalk, the connection connects, and then my client sends the xml header. Then gtalk responds with their xml...

In the telnet to the Zimbra server I write my bit and Zimbra remains resolutely silent in return. hmmmmm...
