Immediately Consumable Web Services

I wonder if there are immediately consumable web services for zimbra, the current approach of sending and receiving messages is a bit bulky, is there any other approach for using consumable services directly? Something like apache-axis where there's no need to send a soap request and then get a soap reply and then parse the whole thing to retrieve the output?

Such an approach of exposing the web services with java2wsdl and axis makes the whole approach of web services much better to use.
