Default ALE - registering new apps

I'm currently looking at the ALE spec, and am very very pleased.

We are planning to write a number of small ALE components so we can do things like incorporate dynamic reports and customisable queries from various other systems into zimbra' notebook pages.

What I really want to be able to do is plug new ALE objects into the page editor (something like an Insert Object toolbar button).

Also, what do people think of the idea of some means of registering available components OLE style to feed the contents of such an Insert Object function? I guess this could take some messing about with the spec, so thought I'd try and start some discussion before bugzilla-ing it.
