Default drag and drop file uploads

Somebody should implement this:
Ajaxian Drag and drop file uploads in Gmail using just the specs
Probably as a Zimlet. Preferably supported by Zimbra. Also, the Flash based solution of Gmail would be very welcome for all other browsers. The XPI based solution if Firefox only and proven to be unstable across releases.

Agreed, the HTML5 method should be implimented, but not necessarily as a zimlet, it should be core functionality.

Flash on the other hand, no thanks. Sure everyone has it but if you put your ear to the ground for a moment, you'll hear noises that are the thousands of developers running to html5. Flash has had it's place in the sun for long enough and it's time to just let it die.

I think we already have implemented html5 verion of it. com_zimbra_dnd and it should work in 6.0.6
BTW, in 6.0.x Zimlets can be made mandatory, which would then start behaving like its part of Zimbra.
But the big advantage of Zimlets is that, if there is an issue, you can disable it and/or upgrade it without having to upgrade the server or waiting for the next version of Zimbra.

A zimlet can be supported by Zimbra as an integral part of the system. It provides the benefits rrao mentioned.

I don't see why a flash solution shouldn't be implemented because of a development which isn't available to the majority of users. It will be years before most customers have HTML 5 compatible browsers. There is no reason why a zimlet can't provide both scenarios.

I have tried but not succeeded in DnD-ing multiple files in both FF and Webkit, but neither seems to work (trying to DnD to the attachment screen). Using the solutions in the article, multiple-file dragging can be provided for Chrome and FF through HTML 5 and through Flash for legacy browsers. This would be a major selling point in combination with the Briefcase functionality.
