Default ZWC refactor

Are there any plans to refactor the ZWC using more common and actively developed frameworks/libraries? It seems to me a lot of issues concerning the ZWC have already been solved by open source frameworks. Cross-browser compatibility, easier theming, new widgets, performance. It all seems to take up too much development effort right now (3-pane and fish-eye as major 6.x features, really?).

Any ideas on this? Suitable libraries, frameworks? Earlier work? Open source initiatives going on? The ZWC has always been a major selling point for Zimbra, so it shouldn't start lagging.

There is a phenominal amount of work in the ZWC, so I don't ever see this happening, unless the community steps up and does it as a separate effort.

Remember what happened when Mozilla decided to refactor Netscape?
