Default A connector to an external IMAP Server

Hi all,

I read some threads about the usage of external imap server in place of the zimbra datastore (like cyrus imapd). In all these cases, like in mine , the members already as an IMAP server they know and use for years, with many (really many) mailboxes and messages. And changing their storage server should be a little bit difficult.

My question is simple, did anyone try or only think in making a zimbra connector to an external server? did anyone had some conclusions ? All threads on that subject were written last year.

Thanks for your help,

Guillaume

In general it'll be an inefficient design/setup. I think people either migrate or just decide to keep what they have. The web client talks SOAP so forcing it to talk to an IMAP server is non-trivial. A server to server IMAP sync would also be inefficient. At the end of the day using a run of the mill IMAP daemon forces you to give up many of the Zimbra features like conversations, search, tags, attachment indexing, etc.
