Admin account allowed access to other mailboxes via IMAP

Hi,

It would be very useful if there was a way of using the admin account in the same way that dovecot/cyrus do to let admins access other peoples mailstores via regular imap (and hence CLI tools etc).

The current situation that it would be extremely useful for me, is easily using imapsync to mirror my Zimbra imap store into a fallover dovecot box so that, should the worst happen and Zimbra falls over/dies/explodes/whatever I have a useful exit strategy.

And it's also handy as an additional backup of the mail, but I'm sure there are many other potential uses if I could get access.

Is that feature on the radar at all?

I believe you want bug 8034 - which has been fixed for IMAP in mainline and therefore should be in the 3.2 preview release (or whatever TPTB decide to call the preview release).

I checked bugzilla and it didn't really have a status on it. Is this feature going to be in 4.0? Is it possible to enable it in 3.1.4?

Fixed up bugzilla for bug 8034. Yes, it's in 4.0. No, it's not in 3.1.4.
