Default Fetching Mail

I'm trying to find a way to extract emails and attachments in a automated fashion. for example i have a PHP script which takes in the ID of the message and script outputs the .zip attachment file.

i found this page:
Zimbra to PHP - Zimbra :: Wiki
but it seems to be outdated and so vague.

can anyone suggest an extension on the link above or explain to me how to get started with fetching email messages in zimbra

Could you give an example of what you are trying to accomplish?

OK so i would have a page which lists the emails in a selected mailbox, i can choose which email i want and the system pulls that selected email from the system and give me the attachment.

I'm looking for the means to interact with the mail server and pull the selected message from the server in PHP or PERL if possible
