Default Does Z support the plus-hack?

There's a convention in Unix MTA's -- the good ones, at least; in fact, it's the definition :-) -- that any incoming email with a + in the LHS of the address will be delivered to a user mailbox as if the LHS stopped at the character preceding the plus sign.

On inspection, it would seem that this should be the case of a Z install as well, since postfix knows how to do it, but is anyone already making use of it in that fashion?

That allows the "+whatever" to be ignored during delivery, but it doesn't enable selection of a target folder. That's Bug 9662 – Implicit folder delivery via LMTP plus address.

And therefore makes it what I was looking for; thanks.

I presume it is not thought to be widely safe enough to make it the default? Are there actual email admins *anywhere* who make live mailbox names with plus signs in them?

I actually use "-" as the delimiter for my email addresses, and I thought I'd set that up a long while ago after reading a thread similar to this one.

Is there an industry standard for this? Should it be + or - or does it not matter. Personally I think - looks better.

As for real emails with either symbol, I think there's a greater chance of a real name having a minus symbol in it than a plus. A double-barreled surname for instance, so that may lend weight to the use of +.

I'd be interested to hear thoughts on this?

An "industry" standard? No.

But the general convention, as I have been led to understand it, is to use the + character -- possibly more than once -- to add 'tags' to email LHSs. (I have see, for example, eddy+nanog+spam@everquick.com)
