Understanding Mailaggregator

I need to add additional functionality to the mailaggregator. Because I needed to change a lot I decided to write a new one. Now almost everything works.
The only thing left to do is adding the accounts to the user so that Zimbra fetches the email.

I looked into the existing mailggregator, but I think it uses a different way then the option in 'Preferences->Account'. How can I do this the best way and is there any Documentation that might help me?
