Default New email via REST

We are using pepperPM a Fork of dotProject for project and contact management. I want to, using rest, start a new email from pepperPM. Basically a modified mailto: command, which tries to open Outlook or Thunderbird. Has anyone else tried to do this?

Are you looking for a URL that will launch the Zimbra HTML client in compose mode with certain fields pre-filled in?
