Question [SOLVED] Persistent chatroom

Hi

I searched for chatroom and persistent chat but nothing came up and I was just wondering if there is a way way to make a persistent chatroom for a group of people.

Our office has an IRC channel but we'd like to have a browseable history for latecomers to the room and wondered if this is possible with Zimbra? We only just installed Zimbra and haven't rolled it out company-wide yet.

If not is anyone working on such a thing or in any way inclined to do so?

Thanks

Mark

Welcome to the forums,

Web-client side the UI needs a bit more work, but if you're using an external XMPP client it's fairly straightforward.

Pidgin and Zimbra - Zimbra :: Wiki
Spark and Zimbra - Zimbra :: Wiki
Adium and Zimbra - Zimbra :: Wiki

After connecting, make a new persistent chatroom against the virtual conference.domain.com (New user's connecting will automatically get a replay of recent convo.)

Bug 21340 - Collaborative chat (aka chat rooms) (web-ui)
Bug 27700 - Enable conference room support from the IM code (admin configuration options)

Add this bug to your list Mike...

Bug 29852 - IM Conference Rooms Don't Work in Multi-Server Setup

Also...how does one edit the conference room settings once it's been created? I can find nowhere in Pidgin where I can go in and edit those settings.

What about removing an existing persistent room?

Thanks,
Matt

If you're the room owner in Pidgen just type /configure then un-check 'room is persistent' in the above pic.

In Spark right click configure or right click destroy room:

(And yes we realize most aren't ready to 'advertise these chat rooms to their users' until this RFE: Bug 27700 - IM : conference room admin settings)

Question how to add actual chat room?

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I can't figure out how to add the chat room in the first place. Do I do that through Pidgin or through Zimbra? Pidgin only seems to want to allow me join an existing chat room...

Pidgen: Tools Menu > Room List > Get list > against say conference.domain.com > add chat > click it in your buddy list > accept defaults or configure room.

Spark: Conferences tab (bottom) > pick service > create or join room.

Web-client: Bug 21340 - Collaborative chat (aka chat rooms)

I would like to add that as a user I was unable to get a list of rooms until I logged in through Pidgin via Zimbra admin user then created the rooms. After that users were able to 'Get list'.

I tried this but it failed at retrieving room list.

Smile How to enable chat room in Zimbra 6 using ZCS Web Admin or CLI

Apologies if this is a really obvious question, but having chatrooms available via Zimbra XMPP sounds like a fantastic feature.

So how do you enable chat room in Zimbra 6 using ZCS Web Admin or CLI? I've followed the links but no mention of: do A, B, C to enable chatrooms.

Don't have Pidgin, just using Kopete on the desktop.

Thanks!
