Post [SOLVED] Developer install on FreeBSD

Hi there,

I managed to get a working Zimbra 5.0 server on FreeBSD.

It's experimental, and I still have lots of TODOs, but if you're interested you can check how to build and install Zimbra on FreeBSD on my wiki : Zimbra On FreeBSD - Gid0.org

The interesting points :
- light distribution : only Zimbra servlets, libs, jars and config files are installed
- ports : third party software (MySQL, openLDAP, ...) are installed from ports
- no /opt

Feel free to provide feedback.

Excellent, well done!

I've got a full binary distribution and source patches almost ready, I've just got a couple of bugs left to iron out before I post. The newer 5.0.5 code seems to do some odd stuff that I haven't come across before.

Nicely documented, and a superb template for running a 'light' version! Although in reality it actually demonstrates why it would be nearly impossible for Zimbra to use this model, I wonder if some community 'light' Linux versions might be possible, tailored specifically to an OS?

I have been using ZCS 4.0/4.5 on FreeBSD for 2 years (with tomcat), but had problems with 5.0 : ZimbraAdmin was nearly non-functional.

With 5.0.5 and public perforce, the UI bugs I had are gone. Everything seems to work fine.

This setup is only useful if you already have a mail transport infrastructure. I have not tested upgrades, so do not use it ! But you can try, as it works in a jail it's non-intrusive.

I can give access to ZimbraWebClient / ZimbraAdmin on my dev server if you want to check the visible part of the iceberg.
