Default Max imap message size

Hi,

I try to sync my existing imap folders to zimbra.
Almost all messages are transferred, except for ones with big attachments.

I set the limit in the admin console to 50Mb, and I can send a 12Mb attachment without a problem to Zimbra.

However, with imapsync, or drag/drop the message in evolution to zimbra, I get an error message like:
2214 BAD parse error: request too long

What is de max. imap message size, and can it be increased?

I think IMAP should have the same limit... Is there any more details in /opt/zimbra/logs/zimbra.log? How big is the message your trying to drag in via IMAP?

I did some tests.
Dragging a 7.4Mb email from cyrus-imap to Zimbra via evolution works.
Dragging 10.4Mb from cyrus to Zimbra fails with an error on the destination mailbox.

Forwarding the 10.4Mb to Zimbra works fine.
Dragging that 10.4Mb from Zimbra to cyrus via evolution works.

So, the problem is that Zimbra imap seems to have a restriction on receiving mail via imap. This also happens when running imap-sync.

The Zimbra IMAP server uses zimbraFileUploadMaxSize to set the max size. The default is 10Meg if it's not set. At this time the only way to set it is via the command line.

zmprov mcf zimbraFileUploadMaxSize 50000000

did the trick. I am guessing the size is in bytes.

Thanks,

Perhaps it would be better to run it as the zimbra user.

To make it easier (and potentially safer) you should run most of the Zimbra commands as the zimbra user. To do this, (as root) type in:

Code:
su - zimbra
This will let you use all the appropriate commands with the proper permissions.
