I have a few spare boxes that I have no problem throwing a copy of FreeBSD on to test the options for a FreeBSD port. I would be willing to open it up to a few that are also interested in porting for FreeBSD. I do understand that everyone has an opinion on what should be developed next, or why it should be developed for X platform. Linux, (RH) seems to be the next microsoft in terms of being doled out on the corporate level, however there a still quite a number of medium sized operations running BSD for production machines. I'm not a 'programmer' by nature, but I certainly like to mess around with things. My contribution is available machines...

i've got over 10,000 solaris boxes in my company - they're still out there, honest! solaris has always been the primary supported os for apps, i'm really surprised zimbra hasn't had more commercial call to persuade them to support it.

Is there a version available for SUSE 10.1?

I would like to see a solaris SPARC and X86 port as my company primarly uses Solaris.

We do use REDHAT AS 4 also.

What advantages would you also see from porting to say Solaris X86?

I vote for Debian 32bit and 64bit!!

Now it must be time for a Solaris port (Sparc as well as intel/amd 32/64) bit. The package structure is almost alike.

I really believe Zimbra could gain a large market share going Solaris because. A port would eliminates the need for windows and existing Solaris Companies (A large number world wide) don't have to swtich to windows or linux to get an exchange killer.

A positive bieffect is definitely the PR Zimbra will get this way. I believe it will generate a big hype and a lot of IT news postings regarding Zimbra and Solaris.

Even I am not paranoid, sometimes I can't stop thinking if the hesitation is related to the fact the Redhat is the formal owner of the Zimbra Company, and the real cause is to avoid Solaris competition on the collaboration front.

Try to imagine: DTrace, Zones and ZFS as base for a Zimbra installation.

There really can't be a more beautiful scenario for a collaboration suite

Somehow I found it hard to see other good reasons avoidng the Solaris port.

But of course one have to respect their choice even if it happens to be based on business and competition perspectives.

I am almost sure the Redhat owns the majority of Zimbra, but how much influence they inforce in the business strategy of the ZCS only people inside can tell.

Nevertheless the Zimbra team still has comitted an amazing product, and provided the possiblilty of free usage.

No complanings from me, just thoughts and wishes ;=)
